DIY Copper Pot Rack and a Simple Fridge Update

26 December

I haven't posted much about the rental cottage that my daughter and I are fixing up for her lately but we are still working away on it every weekend.

If you aren't sure what I'm talking about, check out this post that explains it all: New Rental House Tour.

We've been working in the kitchen lately. So far we have:

Today I'm sharing a couple of really simple projects.

I've been lax on making videos lately for these updates but I did make a quick one and of course, the regular blog post is below as well.

This kitchen has come a long way already and there's still lots we want to do! Here is what this side of the kitchen looked like when I bought the house.

The first thing we did was remove the old pot rack. It was so sticky and grimy 😖 We also unpinned the vent hood cord from the wall. It was just weird how it was tacked up and we're going to fix that too.

We filled the old holes and painted the beadboard wall white again.

Then we used a 3/4" copper pipe. It comes in different pre-cut lengths. I chose the 2-foot length for our space.

I capped each end with 3/4" copper end caps.

To have the pipe away from the wall enough to be able to use S-hooks to hang pots and pans from, I used these copper bell hangers.

Since our wall is wood beadboard, we were able to screw these right in but if you have drywall, you'll need to use mollys.

Here's the video!

Then it's as simple as adding the S-hooks over the pipe and hanging up the pots and pans. Or in my daughter's case, THE pot, THE pan, and her beloved butterfly cake pan 😄

And check out the vent fan cord now! We used a white cord cover and went straight down and then over to the plug-in. The cord cover is self-adhesive and can be cut to the length you need.

I think this side of the kitchen looks so much nicer now and functions much better.

For the refrigerator update, she wanted it to look more high-end and fancy so we added gold handles!

We used an 18" and a 12" gold towel bar and all we did was glue the pieces that would normally be screwed into the wall to the refrigerator with J-B Weld adhesive (this wall mount piece would normally be screwed into the wall with screws in the holes on the left and right and then the towel bar attaches with little set screws).

They have to be taped while they are drying so they don't slide down the refrigerator and we left them for 24 hours.

Once they are dry, you just add the towel bar like normal!

I have seen some people actually screw these into the refrigerator but I was concerned that it would affect the airflow or something.

Of course, this is a very unneeded update but an easy way to get the look of a more expensive refrigerator!

There are still some things we want to do in this room like:

  • Replace the ugly dining room pendant light (you can see a glimpse of it in the picture above)
  • Build a bench for dining room table seating
  • Add some shelves in the corner above the bench we'll build

The next update though will probably be a bathroom update because we've had a squirrel moment and switched gears to cutify the bathroom! 😂

I hope you enjoyed these simple updates!
