There are always a lot of clocks at the thrift store. Most are your typical round wall clock, but I also see old-school alarm clocks with bells on top. Sometimes, there are pendulum clocks encased in a cabinet of sorts; they usually resemble the top portion of a grandfather clock. However, I rarely see cloche clocks—fancy clocks, usually gold in color, with a glass dome covering them.
However, I recently found a cheaper version of the fancy ones. Everything was plastic, even the dome, and it was only $3.99. So, I brought it home and repurposed it into a display cloche.
Repurposed Thrift Store Clock
This may have been one of the easiest thrift shop flip projects I've ever done but I think it's such a fun end result!
This is what the clock looked like when I found it. Like I said, everything including the dome is plastic, except for the two round columns holding the clock to the base. I didn't test it to see if it worked but the batteries had corroded in the compartment and I didn't want to keep it as-is anyway.
The dome just sits on the base, and the clock parts easily come out by just unscrewing a couple of bolts underneath.
Once I had it taken apart, I spray-painted the base with white.
The holes that were left from the clock don't bother me but I thought about covering them with decoupage medium and some pretty paper or fabric. You could also just put a pretty doily over it.
The only thing left to complete this project was to clean up the dome. There was quite a bit of tape residue on it.
I used Oops! Multi-Purpose Remover. and a paper towel and the residue came right off.
And that was it for this project, so easy! I had some fun playing with different arrangements.
I put a small Mozart bust inside on a cupcake stand with two small old books and layered a vintage player piano roll under it, some books, a faux plant, and the boxes from the piano rolls around it. This would be pretty displayed on a piano 🎵🎹
For this one, I used a placemat, a book, and the plant, a vintage owl 🦉figurine, and wooden mushrooms 🍄inside.
Here I used a butterfly 🦋figurine that I found at the Target Dollar Spot and painted gold, and the same book, plant, and placemat.
This one is probably going to freak some out... sorry, not sorry 😉
And here it is with just a couple of dried floral items in it.
How would you style it?
As always, if you enjoyed this post, I would love it if you would share it.

What a fabulous project! There are endless ways to style that cloche for every season and holiday, and just every day. Such fun! I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for that type of clock.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I hope you find one!
DeleteI love the mushroom inside and the little owl beside it. But the doll head inside is too fun! You could really dress that up for Halloween! LOL!
ReplyDeleteYes I was thinking of all the arrangements you could make at Christmas!
DeleteThe doll head...hahaha. I forget what great cloches these clocks make. I see them all the time and keep walking. From now on I will stop!
ReplyDeleteThank you Kim. Some people are really freaked out by doll parts, lol.
